Meet some of our FIV and FeLV positive cats!
ARAS has lots of FIV and FeLV positive kitties that have a lot of love to give. Kitties that have the virus are just as loving and sweet as the non-positive cats, but might require a bit of extra care on occaison. Many cats live essentially normal lives with FIV and FeLV in their bodies. We have a special room at the shelter, John's Room, for FIV (purple collar) positive cats and FeLV (blue collar) positive cats. Please stop in and visit these wonderful cats!

Bruce Wayne,
a handsomely tattered FIV+ adult, loves attention from the ladies! He has progressed from being so shy he would hide in the highest of places to coming over for a pat on the head while he is on the floor. Bruce is a little shy around the gents, but we're sure he will work it out eventually.

Lacey has been adopted!
is a 6 year old FeLV positive girl from a shelter in New Mexico where she was slated for euthanasia due to her condition. Her sole interest in life is to have a home of her own again. Click here to see her photoset, and click on her photo to see one more. updated 11/27/09
Mamasita,
an FIV+ young adult and prior mother to negative kittens, is sociable and friendly with an occasional cranky streak. She doesn't like to be in close contact with lots of other cats when she is asking for attention from people, and will come running and meowing for food and treats. Mamasita has been with us since August 2007. Click on her photo to see another, click here to watch her videos and see all of her photos! updated 6/23/09

Kacey
is a young Siamese mix female who was found as a hungry abandoned cat. It took a few days for her to trust her caretaker enough to allow herself to be caught and brought to the shelter to be cared for and, hopefully, adopted. She has tested positive for the FIV and the Feline Leukemia viruses, but remains healthy, active, and playful. Kacey has been with us since 12/2007. Copper,
5 years, is a healthy, playful FeLV+ girl from New Mexico. She enjoys all sorts of toys and likes to lay in the sun in the outdoor enclosure. Although she gets along well with other cats, she would do best in a quiet home with no young children and no other cats to reduce her stress. She has been at the shelter since 8/2006. Denise has passed away, and her great fluffy self will be missed by all.
Denise, a fluffy adult, is FeLV+ and has been at the shelter since March 2005. She loves to be outdoors in the yard sleeping and sunning, and could benefit from more exercise and a diet plan. Click on her photo to see another, click here to watch her videos and see all of her photos! updated 8/20/09

Bitty,
a fluffy older boy, likes to sleep most of the day in the sun. At his checkup before rehoming after his owner passed away, he tested positive for FIV so couldn't move into the home that agreed to take him. Noah
is a quiet, curious investigator. He is a loving, friendly, cheerful 4ish year old male and is FIV positive. Click on his photo to see another, click here to see his photoset! updated 6/23/09
Hank
was found as a rough and tumble stray tomcat at a car dealership in 2004. He is a large and healthy cat and has tested FIV+. He is very people oriented, and will come over for lots of petting. Click on his photo to see 1 more photo, click here to to see his other photos. updated 6/23/09

Dylan has been ADOPTED with Neelix!
is an FIV positive adult, sometimes shy. He has come out of his shell and is very friendly, although like most cats does not like loud noises or sudden movements. Click on his photo to see 1 more photo, click here to to see his other photos. updated 6/23/09
Randolph
is one of our senior, possibly 10+ years, FIV+ boys. He loves being talked to, petted and being brushed. Due to the possible health problems that old age can bring, chronic eye irritations, and a territory marking issue, he will most likely be a permanent resident unless an understanding and tolerant home is found. He arrived at the shelter from an animal hospital in January 2004. Click on his photo to see another, click here to to see his photos and video! updated 6/23/09
Licorice
was a feral FIV+ cat, trapped at Fitzsimmons before they began to bulldoze the area. He was extremely timid initially. In May of 2004, he had surgery to remove a large tumor in his left ear, that if not removed, would have caused him continued pain and eventually death. The entire ear, inside and out, was removed. He really became friendly with people after that! Update 5/2009: Licorice was adopted briefly to a home with only one other cat and cried all night when his new person could not be with him. We think he would be more comfortable in a home with many other cats to keep him company. Click on his photo to see another, click here to to see his photos and video. updated 6/23/09

Joe
is about 6 years old and FIV+. He is sweet, attentive and likes to go outside and catch some fresh air. He also loves to lay in laps and be brushed for hours. Click on his photo to see another photo of this cat, and click here to to see his photos. updated 6/23/09
Brody

Brody is a young, sweet, FIV+ male who arrived at ARAS on 7/9/08. He has extra toes on his front feet and is very good about nail trimming - even the tiny nail between his "thumbs". He enjoys being outdoors in the pen, playing with interactive toys and his cat friends, and having his chin scratched. Click on his photo to see another photo.

Baron
Baron, FIV+, is a dedicated, sweet lapcat!. He was found in a trailer park in Commerce City on 4/27/07. He loves to be petted and will try to climb into your lap before you can sit down! Because of the stress of living at the shelter, he has chronic eye inflammation and is on monthly antibiotic eye drop therapy, an oral antibiotic (for a few days), L-Lysine to manage flare-ups, and will need a dental cleaning every year to better care for his gingivitis. All of his extra care is worth it! Baron will be a friend for life, a constant companion, and always there when you need him.

Max
is a big, friendly white and grey guy. He has FIV, requires no special care other than an occasional eye wipe and would make a great addition to any family. He has been at the shelter since February of 2005, and he's ready to share his love with his new home. Click on his photo to see another photo, click here to see his photoset and video! updated 6/23/09
Citrus
is a gorgeous orange classic tabby. He is FIV+ and a little shy of being picked up, but likes to be petted gently. He has had a surgery to correct an entropion eyelid to lessen the irritation of his left eye, but is still a little squinty. Citrus loves to be outdoors in the sunshine to show off the reds and golds in his coat, is more of a relaxer than a player, and gets along with the other cats very well. Hoss
is a gentle, stocky young adult. He is FIV+ and tells everybody about his day by singing about it. He's definitely a crooner! Click on his photo to see another, click here to see his photoset. updated 6/23/09

Porkchop,
with us since 11/15/06, is an 8 year old large, round, short haired tabby who lives up to his name. He is an FIV+ boy, one of everybody's favorites and loves attention, and, most importantly, snacks! We would love to have him live in a foster home or a forever home where he can slowly lose weight on a special diet to help his old, arthritic joints. Click on his photo to see another photo, click here to see his photoset and to watch his video! updated 6/23/09
 Poli Ali
is a sweet young cat who came in with 5 kittens. Unfortunately, she and 3 of her kittens tested positive for the Leukemia virus which led to the passing of 2 of her kittens. The last kitten, Rosie, who you see at the top of this page, is healthy and available for adoption. Poli Ali is healthy, playful and strong. Click on her photo to see another photo. Updated 8/20/09
Michael
is a 3-5 year old FIV+ male who was found as a stray in Denver and brought to the shelter on 7/15/07. He is very calm and would prefer to spend the rest of his days indoors in a cozy bed. He's always the first one on the counter when he hears the sound of a food can opening, and must have his own plate as he is a fast, pushy eater. His favorite treat is catnip and he loves to be petted. Click on his photo to see another photo, click here to see his photoset and to watch his video! updated 6/23/09
